Wet/Dry, Bio-Wheel or Canister?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i run a fluval 304 with the bio wheel 60s it works great

i'm running canisters (ehiem and magnums) on all my tanks, with overhang/bio wheels as backups when i need to get rid of meds and chemicals...will be up-grading to the wet/dry or sump when i get my 120gal...but canisters work good for me and they save you alot of room and you can macguyverize them to suit your needs, as long as they have the shut of valves and primers (makes it easier to maintain)

Depends on how much you wanna spend. you could do a big biowheel like an emperor or canister like an eheim, but I'm a fan of wet dry's. I used to use canister and power filters, but wet drys are awesome. as long as you got room for them. if you don't have room for a big filter and want to keep your tank up against a wall, a canister would be your best choice.

i say wet/dry... but tjats much for a few blue dempesys.. go with a canister.. 404

thanks mike  i just bought the canister filter xp3 (capacity up to 175gal.. my aquarium is only 60 gals)... i'm now thinking of returning it and doing my own wet and dry filter :screwy: now.. need some technical knoledge on bonding acrylics or glass... :headbang2

You don't need any acrylic bonding experience. There are tons of plans to do them with rubbermaid tubs etc.. I built mine using two huge rubbermaid tubs stacked on each other with the bottom one housing the pump and the top one filled with bio balls. I built it for around 35 bucks. The next one I build I will attempt one that is pleasing to the eyes. Mine now is a bit ghetto but very functional.

Their is a new post in the DIY about a wet dry that spells it out pretty well. their is also a guy on e-bay. that sells wet drys for cheap. he has some refugiums rated for 320 gal for 145.00 USD that look pretty good. He has a lot of smaller sizes too. I think that his screen name is usa_aquarium or aquatics... something like that.
