How much work would it be to convert a wet/dry into a sump? I'm in the process of setting up a 40g fowlr. I currently have a 12g give or take wet/dry.

Is it possible to convert or should I just sell it and by a sump? Thanks for your help.

In my opinion... Sell it. You can easily make a DIY sump on your own for 100 dollars. I made my 20g long sump for my 40gal REEF tank. It was very very easy. Youll want more capacity in a sump than 12 gallons. Depending on how much room you have I would either go with a 20 long or a 30gal sump. I can take pics of mine if you would like.

Okay, let me take some pics after Kentucky beats Kansas...

Okay, heres a couple pics. Its kinda squeezed in there but its a 20 long. I WISH i would have gone with a 30 breeder instead, but you live and you learn. Here it is. In this picture you can see the PVC lines coming from the overflow into the sump on the left. Also in the first chamber is the skimmer. I also have a couple lbs of LR in the first chamber aswell. In the middle is my DSB. Its 3" deep and I also have an airstone in there too. I tried growing algae in it but I dont have enought lights in the stand yet. Ill be buying that soon. I also have about 5lbs of LR rubble in it(getting more of that soon too). On the right is the bubble trap and in the last chamber is the return pump and extra heater.

In this picture is the bubble trap. You can also see that I have a ATO float switch and filter pad in the bubble trap.

Here is a closeup of the chamber with the return pump and extra heater. You can also see the top of the bubble trap and the fulter pad that I have in there to catch larger debris.

It came to a total of about 90 dollars to make my own sump. Its definately not as pretty as a profesional sump but it gets the job done just as well as a sump that cost 200+. If you have any questions lemme know.

I can see that I need a Degree of some sort to put all that together. LOL. I'm really gonna need some help. I do like your setup though.

Its actually very easy. All you need is the acrylic sheets, the tank, a 90 degree square and aquarium safe silicone. There are plenty of videos on youtube that you can watch too
