Hi I have had a eshopps 200wds sump for about a year now and I've had nothing but trouble with it. My problem is my tank isn't cycling so I have high nitrates because my filter pad will not fit in the black box well it does it's just the thread from the tubing touch the pad I've tried multiple pads nothing and when it does touch it doesn't go through it just over flows and goes out the side so nothing is being filtered. Right now I have the pad on my bio balls and it's not working as well as it should. Any ideas to help or anything I'm not doing right or anything please it is pissing me off almost to the point I just want to get rid of it.

Can you use floss or batting?
If I am following you the pad is to thick right?
When it goes over the side where does it go?

Any pad is too thick! Do you have a iPhone? I can FaceTime and show you because it's really hard to explain.

Sounds like it wasn't designed to use a pad over the drip plplate. Is felt to thick as well?

Haven't tried felt I have really small pads I would like to send you a video and explain but I can't too long for this website.

I don't see what that or any type of pad would have to do with your tank cycling.

+1, and nitrates are the final product of the cycle, ammonia and nitrites would be indicators of not cycling. High nitrates wouldn't be caused by the filter floss, unless it was just old and needed to be changed

My problem is that my tank has too many nitrates all the poop and food is being filtered but not caught by any pad or such. That is why I have high nitrates

And as you said final part. My ammonia is 0 and my nitrite is 0 so the final part is not working so it's not cycling.

Your filter does remove nitrates. Only way to remove nitrates is via water. If your ammonia is 0, nitrites 0 and you have nitrates then your tank is cycled.
