Wet/dry filters

Are wet dry filters good for freshwater tanks? And if I got one would I have to drill an overflow in the bottom of my tank?

Wet dry's are great on freshwater tanks too and no, you would nit need to drill the tank. You will just need need to buy an overflow box or build your own overflow.
