Well my 135 is flushed against the wall so i have no way to add some biowheels etc etc. I have a huge spray bar and came up with this idea.
I have 100 Rena Black Filstars that float with massive bacteria sq. foot area! They are all in a Betta breeding net attached to the tank! Well i have that huge spray bar spraying fresh water on them and they are all spinning around in the net constantly getting water and air!
Can anybody please tell me if this is a beneficial way to get the wet dry beneficial filter or is it not going to work and i am best to add the filstars to an internal underwater filter!

thnaks in advance anybody

i wonder about theases Filstars do u have a pic's od them even better could u video this filter on a short clip...... see i think if thease thigs r floating.. i am not so sure of a large surface area at all?

I was just thinking the way i have it setup now the filstars are floating so they are constantly getting air and water the 2 things to really grow bacteria! I read on the package that they float so they are ideal for HOB filters since they can be exposed to air and incoming water!

i neve saw a filstar this is where i think i am not understanding ... i under stand how a Bio all works and POT scrubers even better ..bio ball have small spikes where they grow and a pot scrubber has so many loops and twrils in there making the surface area is out right incredible...they only other things i know to be good r things that r very pourous... Coral ..Fluval made like Bio Stars or somthing like that etc... ummmm the what i call POP corn the r used in packing boxes work well as well.... anyway sound interesting i hope it works well .. i would really like to see a pic of a filstar
if u know of a website pls let me know

They are called RENA FILSTARS i think they sell on petsmart for 25 bucks for 45 of them since they are black they are extremely pourous from what i have read with surface area like substrate ehiem, maybe not that good but close and since they are being exposed to air i just think it can work. Still i am not sure maybe they are ment to be submerged and water shot thru them and just being sprayed is not enough to activate them.

ahhhhhhhhhh yes .. the lil black stars?....... should work OK .. yet i still would use Pot Scrubbers ....

They will do the same thing that they do in a HOB filter.
I wouldnt call it a wet/dry.

:iagree:

Just something else for bacteria to grow on, but, the return water has the least amount of nutrients in your system.

If you can't suspend something over your tank, then go with it, it sure won't hurt anything.

Well am i better off just puting them into an internal filater like my fluval and just have them submerged!
Would it work if i actually suspended them above the water line then let the spray bar hit them with water!
If its not going to help though i would rather just have them inside my fluval and not clutter the top with them!
