I've seen videos and pictures of wet/drys that people have made out of the 3 and 4 drawer plastic storage drawers you can buy and was wondering if it would work on top of the tank? Use a powerhead to draw water from the tank into the top drawer and let it rain through holes drilled in the bottom of the drawers and eventually rain back into the tank through a big hole in the plastic lid? I know it would be ugly but I can't see any problems with it and there would be no chance of overflow seeing as the drawers wouldn't actually be holding water, it would just be raining through them and the media?

Here's my trickle/sump on my 55 I love it and it works well. Just make sure you have a way to keep fish and sand out of your pump.

And make sure anything you build is well supported, mine is behind the tank on a specialised stand built specifically for it.

Looks like the same kind of thing I'm after. I was thinking of using one of these drawers, top drawer filled with floss and the other 3 with bio media, the hose will enter through the top then rain down via holes drilled in the bottom of each drawer then into the tank, think it would work ok?

Yes but how are you planning on mounting it above? Even if it's got no water holding area, the filter media will weigh quite a bit once saturated unless you use nothing but bioballs or pot scrubbies

It's a thick perspex lid on the right hand side of the tank and the bio media will be plastic bio balls so I can't see it weighing too much, I can build a support if needed but apart from that I can't see any problems?

I think you should be good on support if your using bioballs, and just play with the water level while turning the pump on and off then Mark off your highest possible water level, easy peasy
