Canada... i wish.
hey everyone i have 4 maxi jet 900 powerheads that i wasnt using and i wanted to know if i can use two of the powerheads with tubing connected to the outputs that will lead to a homemade sump under my tank. and then use the other two powerheads inside the sump to bring the water back to the tank.

good idea?

No. Trying to match flow rates with 2 (or more) pumps is close to impossible.
1. all pumps will vary slightly in flow ability (even of same make and model).
2. 2 pumps are pumping up and 2 pumping down. Head pressure will slow the 2 pumping up.
3. powerheads aren't made to lift water, only circulate it. They will be very ineffective in pumping from the sump to the tank.

+1

alright thanks... then if i make my overflow by pvc and "powered by siphoning the tank water" how do i know the gph of the overflow so i know how big of a pump to use?

When you build the overflow, you need to glue an air hose check valve into the highest point. Attach an airhose to it and suck until water comes through the hose.

thanks frnchjeep. hopefully i get some money this weekend and get materials to make my cheap sump :D

I was sniped!!! But I'll say it anyway...

You don't, overflow's aren't syphons, they're (everbody say it all at once) Overflows.

You draw all the air out of pipe at the check valve.

The pump feeds the tank and water overflows back to the sump.

Make sure you get check valve with the spring inside (you can see it) it's a dollar or two more but you need it.
