Are they any advantages of using Wet/Dry filtration over canisters? I was looking at used tanks and notice a lot of them run on Wet/Dry filtration system vs canister. Doesn't it actually cost more to have a Overflow build into the tank? Any disadvantage of running a wet/dry overflow system compared to canisters?

It does cost more to have a built in overflow box, but the advantages of have one built-in include no opening on top of tank, which can prevent loss from fish jump out, no malfunction in water flow when you have a power loss, you can do the return plumbing inside the overflow box, and your tank has a clean look in the back plus you can put your tank close to the wall if you want. For wet/dry vs canister, wet/dry is easier to maintain. The disadvantage is it take more stand space, have loud noise from the water trickle downs the drip plate and from return pump, could give your house a small flood, but if you understand the concept of wet/dry filter, flooding is preventative. Bottom line, if you know anyone who has been using wet/dry, he can help you to set it up, and learn about it ;)
