here is my idea for my wet/dry filter. i want to make sure this will work before i buy the pump and overflow.

the sump is gunna be a 10 gal tank. i'm gunna use this for the overflow http://bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=22327;category_id=1729;pcid1=2885;pcid2=

the pump i'm gunna use is a mag-drive 7. it will be pushing the water 48-50" vertically to the tank. the media will be housed in 2 of these placed on top of each other http://sterilite.com/ProductDetail.html?ProductId=362&Section=Storage. each drawer has 40-60 holes in it. the 2 sets of drawers will be siliconed together so the water doesnt seep out and skip the second set of drawers. the drawers will be filled w/ bio-media, and the sump will be filled w/ mech and chem media.

will this work? :feedback: :feedback: :feedback:
also, are there any other pumps out there that are better and cheaper than a mag-drive?

make sure you have a good prefilter so the biomedia doesnt get plugged.

yea, i'm gunna make sure that i do that. thanks

does any body esle have comments?

Use a big enough sump so that if your power goes off and all the water that siphons back into your sump won't overflow it. I've had that happen a dozen too many times.

As far as the pump goes i'd say that is a good brand. I run a mag 18, and i'ts really quiet. I've only had it running for a few weeks now so I can't comment on the dependability, but the guy I bought it from said it would last a long time.

For more accurate control of the flow rate, you can put a 't' after the pump with one path connected with a ball valve. This path goes back to the sump. The reason for the 't' is so one path can go back to the sump and the other path to the main tank. You can increase the flow back (by controlling the ball valve) to the sump if your pump's flow rate is too high.

looks great and that is a bad *** pre filter! nice work bro
