I'm gonna plumb my wet/dry this weekend. The over flow has a 1" outlet and my return pump has 1/2"outlet. The pump is rated at 1200 gph. The overflow is about 550 gph. I want to run the return along the bottom of the tank full length (72"). Should I leave the return at 1/2" or bump it up to 1"?

Your problem is that your return can not be more than the 550 gph that you have coming to the wet/dry. You will run the sump dry with that pump (you could put a ball valve on it for flow control). My suggestion is to add another overflow to get more volume coming to the wet/dry. If you doubled it up you may actually get 800-900 gph running back into your tank.

also somthing to consider is the more pressure working against your pump the shorter the pumps life will be. I would go with the larger pipe size and another overflow.

I already have the ball valve. I plan on getting an additional over flow ratedfor a 175 gal. tank after tax time. Thanks for the replies, much apreciated.
