I am relatively new to wet dry filters. Right Now I am having trouble controlling the flow of my pump. The filter is an Amircale and the pump is an external little giant rated at 1100 gph. For some reason the water levvel in the sump keeps dropping. In the morning ill check the sump and it will be right at the water line. when i come home and check it, its below the water line. I this hapenning because og regular evaporation or is something wwrong with my set up. ill try to get pictures up as soon as possible. Please help me out. thanks.

What you're seeing is normal evaporation. Since the overflow and pump keep the tank's water level constant, any evaporation will be seen in the sump's water level. That's also the reason why wet/dry filters appear to have alot of unused space. That space is the sump that bears witness to the amount of evaporation or pre-filter clogging is occurring in your system. The latter reason (pre-filter clogging) is also seen as a rising water level in the tank since the clogging pre-filter will act as a dam.

if the tank isnt staying at the same level it pretty much as to be evaporation, or a leak
If the tank level is raising, your pump is flowing more than the overflow is capable of.

exactly right i have to put about a 1/2 gallon of water in my sump every other day

evaporation... i got same problem

make covers for the top of them:) (or make a drip system)

i agree! make a cover... and leave a little space for air to come in. my sump level goes down 1/2 inch everyday because it's summer and evaporation is the reason. as said before. check your tank level. if it's too high them the pump is pumping more than the overflow box's drain.:)
