Little background info:

I got my new 210Gal:headbang2 and I am going to be using an older 45gal that the brace broke -figure it will make a fantastic wet/dry. Guy I bought the tank from was nice enough to give me a HOB overflow to go with wet/dry.

I have my info as this 210gal, 5x turn over = 1050gal/hr = 17.5gal/min (stop me if I am going in wrong direction). I would like to keep mistakes to a minimum and putting money into the pump and making mistakes on the DIY wet/dry conversion will help.

Any recommendations on pump manufacturer would help greatly with the learning process.

Not a recommendation (because I use some weird equipment) but don't forget to figure in head loss for your pump volume (ie maximum pump volume is rated at 0ft).

Anybody out there who are using 1000gph+ pumps in a wet/dry?

I went with 5x turnover as an "avg".

Any info would be great.

Another question is how to figure what the HOB that the guy gave me for free would be rated at? Is there a way to figure that out by measurements?

Set up the HOB with clean media and time how long it takes in seconds to fill a 1 gal container, divide 3600 (seconds in an hour) by the number of seconds it takes and the result is your GPH.

Note this will be different to the "rated" specs of the HOB but they are largely useless anyway, it's the loaded, in tank performance that really matters.
