Im going to be doing my own wet/dry filter soon. an am curious (as alotve you have them) The bio-media (what ever you use, Bio-balls, nylon pot scrubbers, etc etc) Should any of the bio media be submerged completely?

I use bioballs, and I have about 1" of them submerged. I've been considering slowly replacing them with pot scrubbers though.

Ok cool, Im going to the dollar store tommorow to get some pot scrubbers

pot scrubbers all the way

If your on a tight budget go with a **** load of straws. Cut them up into smaller pieces. I also use to the pot scrubbers.

i like the oldschool hagen (fluval) biomax ceramic things v bioballs. proly cuz im old tho :swear:

In the real "old school", we used lava rock chips before the invention of bio-balls. Lava rock chips tended to make the tank acid. If we wanted to maintain an alkaline tank, we used those green plastic toy army men and/or the monkeys from barrel-o-monkeys toys.

Today, I use pot scrubbers that I get from the Dollar stores. Depending on the time of year, they're in packs of 6 for 88 cents or packs of 10 for $1.

I keep roughly the bottom quarter to a third of the bio-media submerged on all my W/Ds.
