Forgive me if some of these questions seem simplistic, but I've never done a wet/dry before.

I'm buying a 150 gallon this weekend. It comes with all the accessories, but I'm thinking about making a wet/dry for it. The tank isn't drilled, so I'll be using overflows.

Question #1: Is there such a thing as a quiet or silent wet/dry? All the ones I've seen before make noise.

Question #2: Is there a formula for what size sump/capacity/gph that a sump needs to be for a certain size tank?

As I say, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to wet/dry. I've had tanks for years, but have always used canister filters.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

That's fine, the only only bad questions are the ones not asked

Overflows are just as good, there is a good design for an all PVC overflow made with simple fittings here on MFK.

There is running water, that is why it's called a trickle filter. They can be made quieter though.

Aim for 5-8 turnovers per hour, a Mag Drive 12 or 18 will do nicely. The 18 may need to be restricted a bit and the 12 may be abit underpowered. I forget if there is a model inbetween those. Quiet One pumps are also nice

Typically, wet/dry filters are noisy, but you can reduce the noise with simple modifications.
