i have a 135 that has an fx5 running on it right now it will be housing about 50 Malawi cichlids in about 3 weeks, cycling right now. my problem is that the well water at my house is VERY high in nitrates and buying 100 gals of water to start and then 50 gals every week for water changes is not something i want to do... yet. so i came up with this idea tell me what you thing. i already have the tank skimmer and safety systems figured so that i won't have any flooding problems. i just wonder how elective will this be? and yes the Fx5 will be running also.

just realized how loud this will be set up as drawn. so instead of the opening in the bottom of the bio i would run a 1inch bulk head and pvc down below the water level and the bypass will be below water also

Consider using RO and prepare 50G a week for your WC's.

Mebbe take a look at the algae scrubber thread.
