Wet dry setup question

hi everyone
I am working on setting up my wet dry for my 220 Gallon. The filter is an aquarium master 300 trickle filter. I have bio balls for above the egg crate, but I want to fill all of the area under the egg crate below the bio balls with seachem matrix.

Any risk of filling that bottom submerged area with additional bio material?

No just make sure it doesn't get clogged up with detritus.

How do I do that? I have some pre filter padding should I add more?

No that's fine that's excellent for the mechanical filtration trapping larger particles.
