I am setting up my filtration system and so far have a wet/dry and 20g that I am using as a sump. I haven't put water in tank just yet (other then leak testing it). I am not sure what to put in the chamber to the left, I was thinking about just a bunch of scrubbies as well but they would be submerged. I want to fill the second compartment with sponges. There is a flex tube with an heavy elbow on it that is not pictured, it sits on the drip tray, coming from the overflow. What should I add or change?

Last picture is a mess, I have not squared away all the cables and stuff yet.

In that configuration I see a higher potential for overflow of the sump and maybe a large water mess. Not trying to be negative, but when I set up a sump/filtration unit these are the first things I look to eliminate is the chance for any potential issues.

How large of a tank are you setting this up for? The wet dry may be enough.

This is for a 225g, If I fill it up to where the line is on the sump it will not overflow when I unplug the pump. Do you see any other reason it would overfill? This tank came with the wet/dry and this is the first time I will be using one, so I don't have any experience other then some searching online.

I just wanted to add, because of a built in "baffle" in the wet/dry it holds a good amount of water, im not sure if you can see it in the picture, let me know what you think I should change, the last thing I want is a mess on the floor.

Im a bit overkill on things like sumps and filtration. Ive always believed the bigger the better. But that's my personal preference. If I was doing a 225g tank id be using a sump thats 75 to 90 gallon sized tank under it. With sock filters, detrius settling section, heater section, Wet dry section and sump/pump section.

Does your wet dry have a drip tray? You could do the heater in the sump section. Id be sure to pack it full of whatever bio media you chose. The scrubbies work good I also like Bioballs. What is the pump your using?

I have the drip tray, its the one up top with the scotch brite pads currently. I am planning on putting the heaters in the sump to make it look clutter free in the tank. The pump is a generic 1000gph that the guy before me was using, I am probably going to replace it at some point however because it is very noisy. I just put some eggcrate and a bag of sand under it so hopefully next time I start it up it will be dampened a bit.
