I am building a wet dry and want to put a small wall between the actual sump and my pump (like i have seen on most store bought versions) so that in case of a overflow failure my pump does not drain the entire sump flooding my tank. My question is how high should it be? The sump is a 10 gallon aquarium. Also does anyone know the diff in mag's pond pumps and utility pumps?

The tank will stop dumping once the inlet starts to suck in water. So the inlet itself is your minimum water level. If you still want to bouild a wall, heres something to think about.

Most centrifical pumps need atleast 3" of water to run in. Take the remaining empty space in your sump and work out the volume (LxBxH) and that number is your SAFETY ZONE.
Then work out how many gallons of water is in 1 inch of your main tank. This can be used to gues a rough level for your baffle. Here is my first sump conversion I finished this week.
