I have a 210 gallon tank with a 40 gallon sump. I have a rio pump that does like 1800 gph.

I have in my sump box 3 ac sponges 10 or so pot scrubbers under that, that is wet/dry then under that I have 3 old filter floss filters that came out of an old "cycled" filter to seed my new filter. My tank has been running like this for about 2-3 months now. I do rinse my mech filteration, sponges occasionally.
My question is the filter floss still helping my biological filteration or should i go ahead and remove them? Maybe I should just remove them and add more pot scrubbers for even more biological filteration.
and my sponges I assume that they are doing mechanical filteration, and biological filteration too. So when cleaning them should i just barely rinse them to get the larger particals out of them and then re-install?

You dont really "clean it", you just take it and put it in a bucket and swirl it around to get the debris off. Never clean it in chlorine water.

When i need to clean Bio media i just throw a pump in my 240 and start pumping out water and cleaning all the bio media thats dirty with tank water.

Beats me.

I've never cleaned mine

Well I have well water so that is how i rinse my sponges but how delicate is the bacteria, will i rinse it off easily?

Am i hurting anything if i leave my filter floss in my sump? or should i just remove it?
