I have a 180 gallon tank with a Wet/Dry. I've heard that plants don't work well with this type of filtration. Is that true? I have good T5 HO lighting. What do you think? I just went out and bought 4 sword plants yesterday.

no they work fine with it, perhaps co2 levels wont be as high as with canister, but they will stay high enough

Howdy,

I have no personal experience with w/d and plants. Besides, plant survival/growth depends on more than just aeration/degassing, lights etc. Echinodorus are pretty forgiving, best of luck, and post an update. Just one thing: They love some iron fertilization.

yeah when people say a sump is no good it's because theyre running pressurized co2 and the excess water movement will gas off your co2. if youre not doing co2, no worries!

Just curious: Did you ever try planted with a w/d?

no i never did. my 55g had a Cascade 1500 canister filter. i spent a lot of time over a plantedtank.net and i dont think i ever saw those guys run sumps either

and i suppose it would work if your dosing Excel as a carbon source, but for pressurized co2, it's just not very effecient
