in the wet dry filter how far up do you want the water level to be in the bio ball compartment? I keep on hearing very mixed answers.
 
Mine is always determined by the pump. Sometimes if the pump is taller more of the media will be submersed. I like to keep as much as possible out of the water though.

I think it all boils down to personal preference.
 
General rule of thumb...1/3 wet, 2/3 trickle. This allows for a broader range of bacteria.

Yes, this allows for variations of nitrosomas - nitrobacters to propagate according to their preferences for more or less submersion. This variation lends itself to a greater diversity and increased capacity of your W/D.

thats how i keep mine... but my other sumps are all submerged media... i prefer that set up now....
