ok i am new to wet/dry filters i run ehiem canisters on my 135 g and my 125g but i am thinking of getting a 220g and want to try this wet/dry filter everyone says i should do . my question is i cant visulize it . i understand somethings but not the whole picture .drilled tank hose run to wet/dry filter filter hits bio balls and pump runs it back to tank sounds easy . what happens if power goes out . water will keep on flowing out of the tank to the filter ? i cant seem to fiqure it out . i understand about one way valves but do they make one for this ect ect .

if anyone can provide me some pictures i would love it .

thanks brett

To control amount of reverse water flow when power turned off, a small hole is drilled into the flow return piping near high point above tank normal water level which breaks suction flow into and overfilling/overflowing sump.

Think of it as an open top canister that has water "raining" through the biomedia. The best explanation is to see it. Find a friend or a LFS that has one running and look at how it works. It's quite simple when you see it.

As far as the power failure issue, that is why you need to make sure the sump is big enough to handle the excess overfow. once the power comes back on it will level its self back out again.

Wet/dry is by far my favorite filter. They're efficient, VERY easy to maintain, and you can hide all sorts of stuff in them. You can even use them as an isolation tank:)

thanks this is what i keep hearing how amazing they are . so i am going to give it a try i think .

anyone got pictures of one set up would be great . i might stop by big als tonight and take a look but if i could see pics i might not sound so dumb when i get there and ask questions . lol

I'll try to get some pix of one of my 3 up tonight.

Are you going to go all out and make one yourself?

yes i think i am going to make it myself . freind of mine know how to build it so between the two of us i think we should be able to . might as well give it a try i have nothin to loose . lol i would really love to see your pics of your set though . thanks . i love this site eveyone al; ways want to help and is very helpful with info .
