Hi,

i was just wondering, when you do waterchange and water is not flowing into your wet/dry filter, do you keep the bioballs submerged with tank water in the sump or just leave them alone dry? i am wondering since the second portion is what i do since i have a small hole in my outlet to the tank and once the filter is stopped, no water is siphon back into the wet/dry (do this incase of power outage which is pretty common in so cal during warm weather days). just wondering if this is okay since i refill the tank slowly from the tap (water is too cold so i refill slowly to avoid big flucuations in the water temp) and would take about 1 hour so no water if flowing through the wet/dry for that time. is this harmful?

I leave mine only partially submerged.
Most of them are not underwater, but with the prefilter on top they dont dry out. I've worked for a couple of hours on other stuff with out the bioballs submerged and never had a problem.

aren't bio balls not supposed to be submergered :duh:

I have heard that bio-balls work better with water just trickling over them, as opposed to fully submerged in water. Bacteria will form on the bio-balls in both cases.

just change ur water leave the wet dry alone

the bio-balls are still damp and it would take longr than a couple of hours to kill off the bacteria. You don't have to worry about it
