Hey guys .. wondering why this white particle stuff is building on the bottom of my tank.
Is my filtration not enough or what?
I feel like I have tons of flow for my tank.

Filtration:
360-c Marineland canister filter
Aquaclear 70
Two sponge filters

1 Flowerhorn - 55 gallons.
I feed once a day; 10 pellets & he eats them all.

Idk how there isn’t flow down there with all the filtration my tank has.

Hello; Two things come to mind. One is the tank is a new setup the other is there may not be surface agitation of the water.
If the surface of the water is calm there can be a film of protein created. It then breaks up into small white flakes. The solution is to somehow have some sort of agitation. I use air bubblers but some power filters can be made to do the same.

This is a stab in the dark but it has hapoened to me, so i'll put it in the mix to cover all bases.

In the past when i've sawn up egg crate/lighting diffuser to snuggly fit somewhere, unless you saw it cleanly you can be left with a very rough "bitty" edge. If you don't smooth these bits off they will, over time come away. Lighting diffuser is typically made from polystyrene, which sinks in water. I see you have white lighting diffuser.

Get some of the white bits and rub them between your fore finger and thumb. If they're hard and bitty, then I am a complete and utter genius. If they're just slimy and smooth then I am a complete and utter fool. Lol.

You know if you have enough filtration when

1) If you test for ammonia and nitrite, using a liquid test kit, and both are 0ppm (after cycling of course)
2) Rinsing the media in old tank water doesn't cause the tank to go cloudy and/or have a mini-cycle
3) You can fill the tank directly with water and water conditioner (at full tank dosage) after remove the old tank water and not have it go cloudy and/or have a mini-cycle
4) Your finish aren't breathing rapidly

I don't really care about particulate or debris on the bottom of the tank, but if you do
5) Not enough water movement on the bottom to blow the debris to the filter intake.

My canister filter’s output is pointed up and to the surface to break it; plus the AQ70 HoB is breaking the tension as well.
It’s not a new setup.
Thanks for the reply!

Ya know, that’s a great point.
Its wedged in there pretty good.
Next time I do my cleaning I’ll check to feel that stuff and see if it’s hard or slimy.
I appreciate the help.
