so early today my gar jumped out the tank and was out for awhile before i knew i put him in the hospital tank and he had a bloody mouth but looked like he was going to make it but i just checked on him and he was sucked onto the filter so i tried to take him out but he is still alive berly i hate to see him like this in pain what should i do

What to do? Put a lid on your tank. You don't want to go through this again.

it did have a lid that wat i don't understand

Can it be pushed up by a jumping fish? Some adhesive Velcro on the lip of the tank and on the lid with a piece of ribbon connecting them means that a jumping fish bumps its head rather than leaps free.

I have some rather large fish that jump often. I have gone to great lengths to keep them in their tanks.

I had one jump at 3:00am hard enough to make the light on top of the tank fall off the block of lexan it was sitting on (to hold it off the glass) and then slide down off the tank breaking the bulbs when it hit the floor.... the noise was enough to make me sure I had an intruder..... Nope just a reassurance that a heavy weight on the tanks is needed.
