Picked it up yesterday, about 4 inches.

What can y'all tell me about them?
How "rare' are they?
How much $ have you seen them going for?
Are they a popular fish here?
Anything you can tell me about them?

There are two commonly found in the hobby. Sexfasciatus and Louso (sp?). The latter has a slightly longer and more narrow mouth. Both get very large, can hold their own with larger cichlids and can also nip fins and scales of other cichlids. At 2.5-3", both tend to sell for about $30 in MD. They do well with a fair amount of vegetable matter added to their diet and are Ph sensitive, especially when larger.

^Yep...Large growing characins from Africa, the lusosso is my favorite aithough I never see any around when conditions are in favor of me having one lol.Which one do you have?

D. sexfasciatus are pretty easy to find, if you look hard - and trust me, you do need to look hard.
I found a 4 inch D. affinis a few months ago, and am enjoying him very much. He does great in my cichlid tank and is not shy at all.
The D. sexfasciatus is known to be quite aggressive.

They are quite beautiful while young but their colors fade considerably as they age. They can be highly aggressive so be careful what you put with them.

I have the Sexfasciatus.
He was eating within 10 min of release, and seems to be doing fine so far.

I really like the coloring, its so much like a clown loach in coloring.

Had a 7.5" D. Affinis and was one of my favorites. Nothing fancy to look at but very easy going, a little shy and it was a hand fed baby. It would get irritated with the large silver dollars occationally but never hurt anyone. I would buy another (probably several) if I could find them locally. Is it rare? Seems to be around here anyway. The D. Sexafasciatus is another story, available here pretty frequently...usually 2"-3" $35 to $50 ,which I think is a bit steep, but none the less it is a very good looking fish when it's young.
