More in depth on the title- what hybrid pairs of cichlids have accidentally spawned in your tank but were for some reason unable to produce fry?
For me it was when my male cutteri paired up with my nanolutea and spawned 4 times, which was on me for not separating them physically sooner, but they did split after every spawn so I'd think that was the last of it, then I'd wake up a few weeks later to the female nanolutea guarding a tiny brood of eggs, which would then die for some reason, rinse and repeat. None of the hybrid fry ever hatched. Anyone have experiences like this/hybrid fry that were not fertile themselves like a mule type thing?

My parrot convicts. I’ve seen that they can cross, but it didn’t help that the male was the parrot...

From what I’ve looked into, it seems like most acaras cannot hybridize out of their genus.

Most south american fish can't cross outside their genus, with the exception of things closer to CA fish like umbees, festae, and australoheros. Also sorry to hear on your crossing, I almost forgot male blood parrots and some kamfas are infertile.

Lol forgot gts were SA for a minute. That would explain it. I remember reading of a gt convict cross though, because convicts lol.

Yeah, I was excited that I had a fertile parrot the first time when I saw tan eggs, but the eggs fungused over each time, most of the time the eggs aren’t even tan anymore. Parrot is a pretty crappy dad as far as helping with the nest, so that probably doesn’t help.
