what alae eaters are best kept with cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes but make shure it won't fit in their mouth.... I've got all kinds of plecos and cats and chinese algee eaters in with my cichlids but I give them lots of caves to hide in.

What kind of cichlids do you have? Also how big of a tank are we talking about because if the tank is too small you can have problems.

I have bushynose pleco's. they eat all the brown algae in the tank. and they like the high ph.

LIKE the high pH? Or tolerate the high pH...big difference. About any fish can adjust to different parameters. Not to sure that they like it though....lol. Siamese Algae Eaters are GREAT for cichlids that stay in the 6 to 8" range...one of the best algae eaters out there, eating hair algae as well. Royal and BSN are also right up there. Royalz are better lookin and get bigger....so thats a better bet.

I have some Lake Malawi and Lake Tanginykan cichlids in a 75 gal. tank. The reason i want a gold nugget pleco is because I have driftwood in my tank and I read that they love driftwood. My cichlids are about 4" long and I have 6 of them.

I have a friend that is looking to get three oscars but he isn't sure what size aquarium he should get. He was thinking about getting a 125 gal. or a 75 gal. Which one would be better?

When in doubt...go bigger!! You can never have TOO big of a tank for fishies...hehe...but you CAN have to small of a tank. Go with the 125 definately in this case cuz oscars get large, are messy, and grow fast.

in this case a bigger pleco isn't better. bushynose only get to be 4-5". I say add a few in you tank and they should be fine with enough hinding spaces. unless you plan on getting a larger tank in the future. then go with the others.

hehe...when i see the word cichlid I automatically think SA or CA....keep forgetin there are a few freaks out there that still keep African cichlids...silly me.... :P

My flowerhorn loves those little chinese algae eaters! He eats them as fast as he can catch them
