I rarely post but I do navigate threw threads almost daily. Mainly because the majority of my questions I usually find the answer using the search goin through old threads. With that being said I do have a question for you all. So I have had my two motoro rays for four years now and they have never bred. The male disc is about 10" and has been harassing the female (which is almost double his size at about 18/19" disc) for almost two years now but still nothing. My question is, could it be that the female is just too large for the male? Is that possible?

I think that may be your problem. My retics were breading like rabbits until my female had a major growth spurt. Now I am in the same boat as you. He is just too small now to get her up high enough to flip over under her. Basically he just annoys the heck out of her now.

That's very likely. That is a huge size difference you have going on there. Surprised that male stayed so small. That is unusually small for a 4 year old motoro...even for a male. You may want to try to obtain a larger male. You could probably market that male you have as a true mini motoro. Maybe find a small female of whatever species to breed him with.

Yea I always thought it wasn't normal with the male growing so slow but I was told that it was normal. But after the third year and seeing other male rays around the 3 to 4 year age mark way bigger I knew it was something wrong/different about him. Just never heard of a four year almost five year old ray so small.

Yea ur right I think she's at the point of just being annoyed by him now

No sir! A guy I know has a 10 to 12 inch marble who knocks up the nearly 20 inch Female regularly. Another guy also has a small black breeding stud. It's not the size it's if he knows how to use it :) Try adding a proven breeder male.

Could also just be your female or lots of other factors.

But small males can be very prolific breeders from what I have heard.

Ok thanks. I was trying to find another female that wasn't so big to see if he could train his self on her but do you think finding another male would be better?

I wish I was that lucky. :)
