i picked up two eels similar to this a while back at walmart. not sure what it is. at the time i thought they were tire tracks so i got rid of them once i realized how much of a task it would be to get a tank big enough. iv never found an ID photo that matches. someone told me though that there is such a thing as a hybrid. not sure if that is true; doesnt sound like it. but it could be possible. here's a pic of one of them.

No Zig-Zag Yellow Tails are a bit rarer than half-banded they are like most other spiny's and are probally the nicest spiny i've ever saw =]]Need to be kept in 55gal +

if it helps, i estimated the larger of the 2 eels i had to be 8". so that dismisses the possibility of it being one of the smaller ones which reportedly only get to 6".

i am really curious though about finding out what these suckers are because if they stay small enough ill consider trying to find one again for the next tank i set up. finding one will also be a problem cause they were shipped by mistake in place of peacock eels and to make things worse all the walmarts iv been to lately have quite selling peacocks in general.
