Lol

The body patterns are pretty similar arent they??

Is there anything else i can check so I know if it is 100% Weeksii or Palmas Mr. Bichir-Man?:D

does the pattern look dark like this? if not it's most likely a weeksi. I have been all over socal and have yet to see a real palmas palmas for sale. All the so called "palmas palmas" were mislabeled name.

Its not as dark. On the back of the front hands/fins they have a green tint.
On the mohawk/tail of yours, there is a nice yellowish color, mine dont have it that bright... could be cause I have black sand maybe??

Black is better than beige color sand. The bichirs will turn into a dark grey color.

Weeksi bro:)

Hello,

it's definitely a Polypterus weeksi ... a bichir that is not easy to get these days!
The reasons why i'm talking about weeksi:
The over-all body shape ... weeksi is a bit thickish ...
The big head ... no other bichir has such a big head.
The colouration ... the stripes are typical for me ...

I'm keeping a Polypterus weeksi - so i have a good opportunity to look ... here is a pic of mine - you will see ...

week001.jpg

On the pic you can see the typical stripes as also the big head. Weeksi do have external gills up to a lenght of nearly 20 cm. But if they are kept under less-oxygenic circumstances the will loose their external gills mu8ch earlier.

Hello,

when looking a bit more to your pics i can see the external gills - very little but not absent.
Another thypical thing to weeksi: The black coloured pectoral fin basis. No other bichir do have this ...

Greetings
Uwe
