ex-Geophagus brasiliensis

I don't remember reading it anywhere but has there been any talk as to whether might belong in an existing genus versus a new one? Or are they just at its not s geo?

AFAIK they are no longer considered part of the genus Geophagus, which has been redefined as a much narrower group of fish and excludes the likes of Satanoperca, Gymnogeophagus, the red hump/steindachneri types and the brasiliensis complex that were once all lumped in there. That said, fishbase.org still lists G. brasiliensis and G. steindachneri as valid names, so maybe they still are Geophagus by name, if nothing else.

That's what I've been hearing, kind curious as to where the end up.
