Hello!

New here (sort of, apparently made an account a while ago but never used it!) and I have a question for all of you.

A couple of months back I bought a new poly from my LFS to eventually go in with my 9" senegal once I upgraded he tank. This new one was labeled as a palmas palmas but I don't think he is. I am having a terrible time IDing him because there are a few bichir that have the marbeling. Every time I go "that's it!" I see other pictures that look nothing like it.

So, could you help me out and tell me what I've got? He's probably about 4" but is much thicker than my senegal.

Thanks!

Ah wondeful, thank you. I thought it was an endli but wasn't sure and because they can get so big, I wanted to make absolute certain that I knew what he was so that I could plan appropriately. I just put him in with the senegal tonight and he seems to be doing very well!

Thank you all for your answers, hope to stalk this forum for a bit as birchir are my favorite fish!

Just another quick question, has anyone had success keeping bichir with a tiger shovelnose catfish (until the cat outgrown the bichir that is)? I have one in another tank that is way too small right now, but once he grows, would he be compatible with my two bichir while he is still relatively small? I do know how big they get and again, planning accordingly.

Thanks!

Your gonna need a reeeeeaaallly big tank for a tsn

Nope...shovelnose has a big mouth...they can swallow relatively large fish compared to their body size. I've seen it done.... but I would not recommend it.
