picked to guy up from this the lfs today, but not sure what he is and neither were they! Thought he was cool none the less.... any guesses? Pretty big about 6-7 inches, and got some nice color on him before I stressed him out with a car ride lol.

Looks to be a parachromis species to me...maybe dovii? (wolf cichlid) will be much easier to tell when it settles in and gets some color back. I'd start be looking at central american cichlids. Definitely a one fish per tank sort of fish! They are brutal!!
The face shape reminds me a bit of a true a parrot cichlids and the color reminds me a bit of a dovii, but it doesn't have that mean dovii face or dark black pattern.... I'll get more pics when h colors up.
It does look like a zonatus but I'm not 100% either... I'll post more when he colors up
I would agree with zonatus. Possibly a hybrid but definitely a veija of some sort
