Everywhere
2 Rainbow crabs and 2 Red Swamp Crayfishes. Their habitat is with bogwoods, plants and a rock.

The sand is made as a shore and the water stinks like a drain that has thousands of carcasses left for months and months within 3-4 days.:(

It would start the smell on day 2 itself and to let that pass would be really bad...and when I do water changes which seems like almost everyday the whole bathroom is really thick with the odour that I have to rescue my family by shutting the bathroom door and die there myself.:D

Poor Invertebrates, not to insult you guys...you guys are awesome!:headbang2 . Anyway, and even after repetition of sand being washed the smell would just not go. I realize I have to dry it under the sunlight...hmm, ok.

What type of filter can I for just a 3 inches deep of water? What about your experience? And another question, I have been thinking of making a setup for Hermit Crabs also...but as I am experiencing this, my question is...do they smell the same? I know with Hermit Crabs I can just have some water dish for them to use it whenever they want, especially with them enjoying companies. But in this case they don't like interruption from another..

Try a s small sponge filter, I plan on doing a small archer setup with a sponge filter/sand and than I will have the roots of lucky bamboo under water. But Why not just invest in a air freshener? I have one in my room that sprays every 2 mins and works amazing.

where did u get the sand?

The sand is actually not the real one that we see at the shore, but actually are gravels small enough like sand. And it's newly baught and now smell unbelievably bad.

I have placed a dish and one of the Crayfishes got in it and never got out. He just seemed so comfortable in there, this morning I see the dish has gotten so dirty with some white stuff, cloudy and smelling bad. I took him out of the dish and placed him on the sand, which also has water but cleaner. Smelly though...

I am thinking of giving up on them, they are awesome but it doesn't seem to be going well.:( They deserve better..

Lol what's the point of air freshener when the water is dirty and smelly for them. While the bad smell present, the air freshener is just going to be sensitive enough for us to smell it more than the bad smell...unless it gets its ass kicked.

I'll see what I can do with the sponge filter..if it seems difficult for me, I will just give up and move my Leopard Ctenopoma / Leopard Gourami / Leopard Bushfish in this tank. This is a lesson for me.

I gave up on them earlier today, all back to the LFS...the odour was unbelievable when I cleaned the tank to send them to the LFS...so that's the end of the story...
