Hello MFK. Just want to know what are some good dithers to keep with ca cichlids? Something extremely fast. I tried tinfoil barbs and no luck.

What are you going to be keeping them with and what size is the tank they will be in?

What kind of CA cichlids do you have? Sound like you may have large aggressive ones. I keep swordtails w/ mine, but I have smaller CAs. It is hard to find any other native CA fish that would make good targets. Silver dollars are fast and get big enough not to be eaten.

I have a 4in trimac that I am growing out a pair of JD's about the same size and a 4in umbie. They are in a 75g. I tried tin foil barbs and the trimac had no mercy on them. They were killed in one day.

Hmm.. Convicts or Giant Danios are the first things that come to mind as I look at your stock. Question, Why do you need dithers anyway? Trying to get your JD pair to bond faster?

Just trying to divert the aggression away from the umbie. The trimac has been on him lately. He chases the JD's but they hold their own a bit better. Plenty of hiding spots, caves plants. Gonna try the Giant Danios and convicts.

Wow I love the Dovii in your Avatar. I've yet to find any dither that can stay in a tank when a larger cichlid wants them out. Giant Danios or some of the smaller growing silver dollar species would be your best bet.

I'd try giant danios or silver dollars but be prepared for it to end up just like the tinfoils. I have several 4-6" cichlids in a 90 and my Jd has just decided that he wants the whole tank and is taking out 2" tiger barbs like they are candy. They ll be moving into a 300 in a few months, but the only thing working for now is isolation of the jack to a 20 gallon and total rescape of my main tank. Seems to work ok for a week or so, but I've had to repeat this process 3 times now. I can't get the new tank built fast enough

I've tried Silver Dollars, Tinfoil Barbs & all those & I didn't have any luck either.
I'm using some N.Venustus now & they have lasted the longest, so far.
