If a female showed red color on her belly, and the belly is abit fat, does it mean she has eggs inside her. Its been 2 months like this the pair still feed alot on feeders. How long does the eggs stayed in the belly of female, will the female release the eggs ultimately??

how long does this process takes. Someone advise me thanks

The pair of Pikes are housed with 6 other tankmates. 11 inches Siamese Tiger, 3 inches albino adonis, 10 inches Xingu, 4 inches Madagascar, 10 inches albino banded knife, 6 inches flash zebra knife.

Has anyone breed their pikes along with other tankmates before, do my pair still get a chance to breed in my tank with other tankmates

What type of pikes are they? If they are Lugubris pikes, good luck. They are very hard to breed, very hard. Hasn't been done yet to say the least...;). Females will get very plump, their bellies will turn REDDER, they will start following each other more. The female will perform the 'C' shaped dance infront of the male where she curls into a 'C' shape infront of him. they will twitch, find a nesting spot, guard and clean it like no other. Best of luck to yaz! Hope its a Saxatilis group, as they are much easier to spawn...;)

mine is the true Brazilian Cre. Strigata pikes can give me advice on my present conditions.

They are eating well though :)

Post some pictures!! :D Crenicichla strigata are relatively uncommon....true ones anyway...so pictures of them are always loved. You have a pair on top of that, even better. Unfortunately, they are a Lugubris pike....which makes breeding them a pain..haha. Take out all the tankmates, dedicate the tank to them. Lower the pH, make the water soft. Add lots of driftwood, caves, claypots, anything that makes a cave large enough for them to breed in. Saxatilis pikes are cavity breeders, so its assumed that the other pikes are as well. You can try regulating the photo period, different foods, pH drops/raises...doing large water changes....i don't know. Finding the breeding trigger is the catch. Document it, when you find it...SHARE THE INFO!! :D

so its a must to remove all those tankmates i housed them together with??

I put in ketapang leaves to lowe the ph of the water

is this alright??

Don't know what they are...hopefully they aren't harmful...haha. Takin out the tankmates isn't necessary but it WILL help. They are gonna get HELLA aggressive if they breed, so it would be better to remove them. Plus then if they do breed they don't have to worry about the other cichlids, more of a chance gettin them to breed. If you try removin the other fish while they are breeding they might stop...;)

my friend was saying if I housed the pair of pikes alone they might
have a chance of killing each other in the long run, so he advised me to mix them with other fishes instead, which its much more safer.

If they breed they are gonna have a chance of killin all the other fish. If your wanting to breed them, get rid of the other fish...seriously. If they are a pair they aren't going to fight as much. Pikes are highly conspecific, so if they aren't fighting already they aren't going to as much. Make sure there is some PVC in there that is only big enough for one of them to get into....have hidin spots all over the place incase things get hot. A lot of people house their pikes as pairs solo in the tanks...;)

Your gonna have a hard time breedin them with other fish though. It might be possible, but the young won't make it...:(
