So cal
Well I was just browsing through all these threads on diy and everyone is so good at making stands or building their own tanks, I was like "damn how do these guys get so good at this." I'm 16, don't have a lot of tools my dad used to do a lot of simple woodwork but nothing really sturdy enough for an aquarium. My only experience with woodwork is 8th grade shop class, I couldn't even finish my towel rack lmfao. :grinno:

So I was wondering what would be some good starter projects to gain some experience on the diy ethic and the feel of things?

And please list the tools I would need and supplies :headbang2

I need a cover/hood/ for my 20g long and I might need a stand for a large aquarium I might get but I haven't not a clue on how to make one =[

I just finished a canopy / stand for my 20G high- The canopy was easy and I made it for $11.00 (including light). All the wood was scrap.

Just practice, it helps if you try to build stupid things you don't really need.. good practice lol.

I'm doing a 4000 gal for one of my first diy. Filters are always a good start. I made a 55 gal drum into a filter, and also super insulated a cattle trough to withstand the Montana winters(keeps my pond at 82 F even when it's -40 outside.) Best way to learn is to just pick something and go for it. You might fail, but if you think about it you've probably already did something that can be considered diy. I have some in tank bucket filters that are definitely diy, but I never thought of them that way til someone told me about it lol.
