What are some less aggressive cichlids?

My 2 Firemouths are in a 40 gallon tank and I'd like to give them a few small tank mates but unsure what work with them. I thought about rams but any advice would be nice.

Other Thorichthys can work. Ellioti, socolofi, helleri, etc. etc.

Do you know if you have a pair or just two firemouths? What size are they? IMO, I wouldn't add any tankmates because the 40 you have would be perfect for a couple of firemouths once full grown. Sorry, don't mean to be an ***, but just trying to save you from having to rehome your tankmates later. Good luck

+1 Yes been there done that ! That's what escalated my tank count lol.
