I'm thinking about getting some grand sumo...but I heard chingmix is good aswell.
What do people think....I can get grand sumo, chingmix head booster, chingmix maxima, and chingmix premium staple..all for a pretty good price.
Can I mix the pellets to create a super staple....is this ok for the fish

I personally use hikari cichlid gold, and I get better colors and more activity out of my flowerhorn than other foods i have tried over the 2 1/2 years i have had mine.
I also supplement the diet with blood worms and a couple guppies here and there, as well as whatever ghost shrimp he devours off the bottom of his tank.
IMO varied diet is the way to go, i mean in the wild most species dont eat one particular thing, they eat whatever they find or happens to swim/float by them.

None of the foods you posted are good for FH's, or any fish for that matter. Gimmick foods such as chingmix or grandsumo will never replace genetics. Get a top quality pellet, NLS(New Life Spectrum) is the best out there IMO. The ingredients used and the quality of the ingredients make up a spectacular food for fish.

Varied? Do you know how many things go into 1 pellet? If a pellets aren't a "varied", then what is? This way of feeding is outdated. If it works for you, keep doing it. But there IS a pellet out there that can replace the need of feeding frozen/live.

I feed all my fish nls, omega one, hikari bio gold and I have also been treating my kkp and Texas with grand sumo.

I have heard alot about NLS but never tried it personally.
And to answer you water, it does work very well for me although i am always open to looking into other ideas, so i may have to do some more checking on NLS. As far as pellets being a variety, i agree they do contain a great variety of food and nutrients which is why i include them in the diet however IMO there is no substitute that mimicks whole food items I mean thats what they have survived and thrived on in the wild for however many millions of years (for those that will correct me, yes i understand that flowerhorns are not that old, but other similar fish are), therefor I happen to believe that whole food items should be included at least to some extent. And live foods on occaision also give them that thrill of the chase, that my FH seems to absolutely love.

Once again, this is only my opinion of what works for me, and i always welcome advice/suggestions, as i realize there is ALWAYS more to learn lol.

I have been feeding my fish with Ching Mix head booster combining it with Waldrey's Cichlid Pellets and Azoo FH cichlid pellets and I have had very good results my FH is getting bulkier and his kok is getting bigger, he's on his way to become a Tank.

The only think that bothers me is that now my FH just wants to eat pellets, he doesn't seem to be willing to accept other kind of food.

Lol, my FH will at least kill, if not eat Anything i put in the tank. He does not like to share i guess.
When my FH was about 3 1/2" i added a 7" pleco to the tank and woke up the next morning to a dead pleco with its gut eaten...So i have no issues getting my FH to eat anything whatsoever lol.

NLS is the best pellet for your flowerhorn. ching mix and grand sumo are high fat/protien to bulk ur FH

I have to agree with the above posters who don't use the "Flowerhorn Branded " foods . I've tried most of them and they're overpriced and not as good as NLS or Hikari . I use the 6 millimeter NLS sinking thera A , Hikari Cichlid Bio Gold , or Gold , frozen foods , and various treats . don't waste your money on Grand Sumo ....
