what are the chances of being true abalios?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's nothing to make me think they're not. If you assume the location tag is correct, chances are really good, with only a slim chance they could be dicrozoster. Unfortunately at 1.5" the tail pattern and barring hasn't differentiated and any opercular marking could arise as late as 3 1/2". They look nice and high quality, I'd go for it

ya the last thing i want is another dicrozoster. coming from wetspotcx, chances are high, but size is the thing. I emailed him yesterday and i'm waiting on a response now. Just want to see what MFK has to say. I will probably go with 4, hopefully atleast get one abalios.

Ok I heard back from them, what do you guys think, go for it?

This is what he said
" Thanks for your inquiry. These abilios are shipped as Geophagus surinamensis Colombia. We were told they are always abilios."

The photo on the auction was ID"ed as G. abalios by Oliver Lucanus. I work for The Wet Spot. Dicrozoster and Abalios are fairly easily told apart at any size due to the teardrop that one species has.

Good to hear, ya i have a 8"-10" dicrozoster and i didn't want another one.

Abalios seem to be fairly common around here. I didn't get mine from the Wet Spot, but generally their species identification is good.

Are we talking about "The Wet Spot" LFS in Portland, Oregon? I just noticed your location was in Texas and I was wondering if I was mistaken about which "Wet Spot" we're referring to.

I've been eying the ones at the Wet Spot in Portland, they are Wild Caughts, there's only 4 of them, 2 are really good and the other 2 on the small size, but great price, considering they are WC. they are great fish BTW, starting to color. grab it before I do , :)
