I keep nile tilapia . Actually they probably are a cross between aurea, nilotica and/or some hornorum ? who knows . The big question that has been on my mind for about 5 months is: Can the Emperor cichlid cross with a tilapia ?
A biology professor I spoke with gave me little insight . Although ever since I told him I am raising tilapia he has been against the idea and couldn't understand why anyone would want to raise an invasive species ?
He also said he encouraged me to raise bluegill( a native fish.)
So, I waited a few days and left a message on his answering machine saying that I am looking for a breeding group of asian carp .
I just couldn't resist that one.
I do not know much about the Emperor cichlid ( boulengerochromis microlepis) but, it seems a cross is possible .
The temperament of the fish may be a problem.
Maybe if I use a male emperor with several older females ??
What do you think?
