ive got about 60-70 black convicts that are 2 months old now, i keep them in my basement in a 29 gallon tank, im going to be giving them away to the LFS soon, but im kinda curious what kinda temps they can handle, can they live in 60* weather? my basement stays at 60* almost year round (its mostly underground) but in VERY cold days can get to 45-55* only when its 0* or colder outside, anyway can convicts handle this type of weather? im really curious cause i hear they are the hardiest of the cichlids you can find.....

any advice or experience would be great.

nopers i wouldnt even try it it will greatly effect there health if not kill them especially if you are going to give them away why comprimise the health and pass bad stock off to someone else spend 20 bucks and hook them up with a heater

they have a heater right now (300 watt in a 29 gallon) its been a constant 78* in their tank, i was more curious than anything.

they are 2 months old now and im going to take them to the LFS maybe tomorrow or this weekend, im giving them to the place so they are happy :)

im thinking about seperating the male/femail convict, almost all other fish in my tank are female, (i think) so i may leave the male con. in the tank and put the female in a 29 gallon with some of her baby's and some guppys (guppies wont last long i know)

My con survives easily below 70, around 60-65degC

I know someone who had a convict in a pond out side in Ohio and it came out and ate until it got below 50 degress and then we didnt see it no more.
