I'm getting some new (to me) tanks this weekend. I plan on setting them up in the near future, but need to purchase some filters. The tanks are 75g, 38g and 125g. The 75g and 125g will each have a wet dry in addition to either a HOB or canister (or two). As much as I love aquariums and fish, I hate the hearing the sound of the equipment. So what filters are the most quiet? All help and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve.

IMO there really aren't any HOB's that are REALLY quiet... once again in my opinion, the AC's and Whispers (I know most people dont like them but Ive had mine for YEARS and they still run great) are the most quiet. (Out of the filters Ive used)

Most canisters will be near silent, maybe a slight hum if you get really close to the unit.

my aquaclears are pretty noisy but my xp3 is pretty silent except for a faint hum. i dont here it over the ACs or the tv

I have an Eheim 2217 that you literally can't hear, even if you stick your head under the cabinet of the stand...the only way you know its on is if you look at the spray bar. Best money I spend on filtration ever...

Thanks for the replies. I've used Whisper HOBs in the past and I thought they were noisy for a bedroom, but not too bad for a living room. I've also had older Fluval and Marineland Magnum canister filters that I've thought were noisy. So noisy that I put foam all over the inside of the stand to try an muffle it. I am extremely noisy sensitive and hate the white noise hum of something running. From the sounds of it, Eheim is the way to go.

HOB's as a whole are going to be noisy. For canisters, you won't get much quieter nor reliable than an Eheim.

Ehiem is the way to go. like the other person posted you wont know its running unless you look at the spray bar. I have mine in my bedroom and i never hear it running. And they are just great filters. Little more expensive but well worth the money. Actually almost all my filter are ehiems.

hmm my 2 jebo h.o.bs dont make jack noise

my 2 ehiem professional cannisters are so quiet you have to put and ear on them to hear anything.
