As the title says does anyone have a ballpark estimate on whether HR699 is going to pass?

Right now it's being listed as not likely.

That does not mean stop writing letters and calling. The only reason why it is not likely to pass is the mountains of letters and calls the representatives have received thus far.

Well they got my letters and emails and I signed the petition. Guess all I can do is cross my fingers and supply my LFS with anti HR669 papers

Very low. A new law like this tries to pass every year or so.

That is good to hear. I have never heard of it in the past though. Are they really trying that hard to get this bill through ? If they try this often it just might happen eventually. God that would suck...

It depends on a lot of things, I wouldn't rest on my laurels.

I listened to the discussion they had and they are (F&G) really asking for alot of funding to curb the invasive species of non native fishes and plants....there was a panel of higher educated people on behalf of the bill. they stated good cause for a bill...

however,
The speaker who impressed me the most, was a Talapia farmer from the southeast...stating the bill was something needed but it provided as he put it "too wide of brush stroke" to suit everybody. It would cause him to not be able to support the live market of 20 million tons worldwide...he went on to state he has NEVER had an escapee into the wild and he raises million upon millions of pounds of Talapia...

I do not want the wild to be jepordized myself, but I also know that conscious carefull fishkeeping, is not what is going to hurt the natural domestic habitats...

And the way the economy is now I think federal moneys need to be used in better places, like stopping the non native invasive drug trade,
and healthcare, and developing better and cleaner fuel sources...

I agree 100% especially about the funding could be used in better places. I was in San Francisco last week watching junkies heat up their CRA** suspiciously  It was like the police turned a total blind eye to it.
