What are these catfish? Syno of some sort?

I know pretty much nothing about catfish as I have never kept them.

Saw these at a LFS. Probably 6-8 inches and fat. Another LFS around here as one or two about the same size.


These were just labeled "XXL Syno Cats." What species are they?


They also had a foot long "syno angelicus" for 300 which I had never seen before.

which is which? The back one is Euptera right? Are they any different max size wise and keeping wise?

And does 40-60ish sound right for that size?

I wanted those question I quoted (aka myself) answered. He mentioned the two species but I do not know which is which.

Eupterus is at the back in lighter black.

I love synos. Sturdy enough to be housed with some meanies and most are pretty active (the eupterus, not sure about the other guy).

I keep angelica, multipuctata, schoutendenti and decorus in some of my Malawi and Tang tanks.

That's a bit on the pricey side for a eupterus... they're relatively quick growers.
