Ok i was cleaning out a fluval 405 and noticed that the filter sponges were red which i thought was odd but whatever. So just alittle bit ago i cleaned the entire thing out since i dont need it at the moment and i found these 2 little red worms. One was alittle over an inch and the other was alittle under an inch. They both look segmented. I got 4 scats from africa months ago and thats the tank this filter has been on. One of the scats died for no reason i could figure out a couple weeks ago and now im thinkin maybe it had something to do w/ these things. Anyone know what they are or how to get rid of them?? The fish that were in that tank have been in my 220 since last week so now im worried about everything..ideas??

..do you feed your fish blood worms?..

looks like a thawed out blood worm to me.

Well that would be great if its just bloodworms. I think that tank maybe only ever got 2 cubes of them and its been awhile. The one worm just looked way bigger than the bloodworms usually are but hopefully thats what it is. I just thought it was weird that the sponges were red. Ive run these filters for a while and never had that happen before..

Those don't look like bloodworms, but maybe it's just me.

All midge fly larvae are called bloodworms (along with a few other names). And, with 200+ genera with over 4000 species (over 2000 species in the US) of these midges, there are variations in the shape and size of their larvae.

New fact for the day for me... I feed blood worms to my fish and never looked this up. feelin silly :duh:
