What are these?

- come home find 2 fish floating in my motaguense tank
- call dad asking why in the hell would he buy fish when I have mota
- fish store was trying to get rid of them
- given as convicts


They dont seem like convicts, look at the pearl scales below lateral line

My gut says Jack Dempsey X convict. Check out the blue gill plate and spots on side more

Look like the Texas x convicts in the display tank at one of my lfs.

Part con for sure. Top half of body has the regular striping and overall grey color with a tint of green/yella. Bottom is spangled in a way the could be dempsey but looks more like H Cyanogottatus to me (uniform spots, small) but it could be a number of things for sure.
