what are these???

I allready posted this on aquaria central but mabye Ill get a better answer here. I found these in rotting leaves and other crap in the bottom of the fountain where I collect mosquito larvae. they look like a bird crap with a long tail and. I have never seen these before. I found 2 of them heres the best picture I got there are more on aquaria central. the penny is for size comparison

does anyone know what these are?

Those are whale sperm...,okay, not.
What they really are is the larvae of a type of hoverfly or flowerfly called a dronefly (family Syriphidae, many genus and species), in this stage they are called rattailed maggots and they are harmless. Generally found in detritus in standing water.

thats really interesting I have never seen them before, but I have seen plenty of hoverflies. thanks for the information. the next question is, should I feed them to my fish?
