Feeder Fish

Me and Islander671 were talking about NGT's and it seems to me that they are extremely picky eaters. I only have a 3.5" but he will only take rosy's and bloodworms. Islander has a 7" and will take bloodworms and feeders also. Got me curious as to what other MFK's with NGTs feed them. Inputs??

yes , NGT are fussy eaters. Mine i,ve had for 5 months, and still only eats bloodworm. At least its frozen bloodworm.
Check some past posts... many people starve teir tigers to get them onto frozen foods.
It really depends on how far you are willing to starve them for. some one on this forum starved an NGT for 7 months, but it worked and finally started eating frozen prawns.
I personnally, have tried to starve him, but I have other small tigers, less than 3 inch, which I don;t want to risk starving.

I know my old NGT's took a few weeks to get him to take MP and Silversides and the occasional pellet, but the pc i have now is sooo stubborn, he was going on 2 months without eating before i gave in and threw in some bloodworms for him. I would have held out longer, but his diminishing strength was causing him to be picked on by the other tigers.:(

they love blood worm

I got mine from Infinite about a month ago. At first he was kinda a picky eater and ultra shy. He would really only eat bloodworms. In the past week, he has really come out of his shell, and he gulps down market shrimp and frozen silversides.

I have two from FRP and I gave in after I noticed how thin one of them became,it looked to be about the thickness of a popsickle stick when it would face off with me.The first one that I got came with a nice appetite, snapping freeze dried krill from the beginning but one day it just stopped going after them and now wont touch em.My dream is to get them to eat earthworms because most of the year they are free.

that's awsome to hear that others have much success with their NGTs. it's hard to imagine that they get that big just off of bloodworms, so i imagine that the 7" + ones can be converted off of live and bloodworms.

Within 3 weeks, I have my NGT to take shrimp, krill, smelt, silversides, massivore delite, aro food stix and of course frozen bloodworms.

My recipe ? We all know they love bloodworms, what I have done is soaked all the food that i want to try in bloodworms while it's thawing in the fridge. I did this with pellets, smelt, krill and market shrimp. Be consistent, be patient and you can get them to eat anything.

Doing this in a QT helps as well as they won;t have to compete with other fish while investigating new food of interest.

You should've QT all fish to begin with for minimum 3-4 weeks. i usually QT mine until it eats my food eagerly, which is 3-4 weeks.

I have a 9" who's flying soon and an 8" and they devour market shrimp.

One time, I had to starve a 4" NGT for 5 months before it gave in to market shrimp.
